Do you Upromise?

Have you signed up for Upromise? Upromise is a program where your every day purchases can give you money to pay off student loans or save for college.

Here is how it works:
1) Earn cash back from online shopping through Upromise.

2) Many grocery stores offer a Upromise card that they will scan prior to ringing up your purchases. Earn cashback when you buy certain brands.

3) Link up any current credit cards and earn cash back by shopping/dining at participating businesses.

I used to think that Upromise would not help us because I did not buy the name brand products that generate Upromise cash back at my local grocery store. However, now that I am couponing (and buying a lot of name brand items for less than what I used to pay for generic), I have been able to save up some money to pay down our student loan. It probably won't be a large amount of money, but every little bit helps.

Have You Checked Your Credit Report?

Thanks to my wonderful banker hubby for sharing this great information about Credit Reports.

"Due to recent legislation, you are eligible to receive 1 free copy of your credit report from each of the 3 major credit reporting agencies each year. It is important to check your report each year to watch for signs of identity theft, such as accounts that you did not open. Checking your credit report will not hurt your credit score.

When you are ready to check your credit report, go to www.annualcreditreport.com. You will receive a free report from Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. I recommend requesting one report every 4 months, to monitor your credit report throughout the year. Be careful not to check your credit score or you will be charged. Only the free credit report is needed. Also, watch out for other websites offering free credit reports with hidden fees."

Looking for more information on reading and understanding your credit report? Click here for an article on how to read and understand your credit report.

Hulu

Thanks to Freebies 4 Mom and Linda for posting the following information about Hulu!

"...you can watch tv and movie clips, full episodes, and full length movies for free. For example, right now, they're showing {Alvin and the Chipmunks, Cheaper by the Dozen, and Jonah: A Veggie Tales Movie} in their entirety. There are ad logos in the corner, or 15-30 second ads during the flick, but hey, they're free. Caveat: Moms and Dads should find and get the movie going b/c the site also carries {a lot of adult movies}"

(We gave it a try last night and watched the Jonah movie with the kids. It was great!)

Frugal Organic Fruit

Looking for a way to get some free organic fruit for your family? Why not look to freecycle? If you are unfamiliar with freecycle it is an online community of people giving & getting stuff for free in their own towns. (There are 3,700 members just in my county in the middle of Iowa.)

How would you use freecycle to get free organic fruit, you might ask? Simply post that you are looking for someone willing to let you pick their fruit tree. There are many people who have fruit trees and cannot or do not want to pick the fruit. Thus, free organic fruit for your family!

Another idea is to take a walk/bike/drive around your neighborhood? Sound silly? In our community there are fruit trees growing wild in many of the parks and public areas of the town. Simply make a call to your city and ask permission to pick the fruit. Make sure to ask if they spray around any of the places you are wanting to pick. Just in our community alone, we have picked apples, mulberries, and plums. We freeze the apples, for apple crisp in the winter time. The mulberries are frozen and made into delicious smoothies.

Free Pack of Stride Gum

Thanks to Freebies 4 Mom for posting how to get a free pack of Stride Gum!

"Get a free pack of Stride Gum after going through a mock court case "People vs. Stride" on their website (hint: I selected "Settle" to get to the free sample form, if you select "Sue" it takes you to the entry form for a contest with only 11 winners). It's a bit silly (and you might want to turn the volume down), but just click through the screens to get to the request form and you can choose from Sweet Berry, Sweet Cinnamon, or Always Mandarin. Stride says they will mail you your full pack of gum in 4 to 6 weeks."

What .52 Can Buy!

One of the benefits of couponing is that after a while you will be well stocked on items that you use on a regular basis. It gives you the freedom to be a bit pickier about what coupons/rebates you use or you can take a break from shopping all together. We haven't gone on any major shopping trips for about 2 weeks. It felt good to take a break, but I will have to admit, today was fun!!

The total spent after rebates and coupons was .52! If everything had been purchased at regular price the total would have been $120.52. I shopped at Walmart, Target, Hy-Vee, Walgreens, and the Sara Lee Bread Outlet Store.

Wondering if "couponing" is worth your time? Could your family benefit from free soap, grapes, bread, shampoo, lunch meat, organic diced tomatoes, and ice cream! Click here to view my other motivation posts!

Free Postcards From Hippopost

Thanks to Keren at Mill Musings for posting this great way to send postcards for FREE!

“…I recently discovered Hippopost , which allows you to upload a picture of your choice to be used as a postcard (you can also add a message). Hippopost will then print the postcard and the postage is covered by advertising (mailed to the US and Canada only–I’m guessing you could send them if you are located internationally, but would have to send them to a US or Canadian address).

They are able to do this for free by placing a small advertisement on the postcard. So long as you don’t mind sending a postcard that has an advertisement on it, this is a great freebie!"
